Posts Of Top Faculty Lying Vacant at AIIMS Bilaspur. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bilaspur, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in October 2022, continues to face significant challenges in filling its top faculty positions. Despite being a premier healthcare and medical education institution, the recruitment of professors and other senior staff has been slow, affecting both healthcare services and academic activities.
Faculty Vacancies at AIIMS Bilaspur
Out of 33 sanctioned professor positions, 22 remain vacant, along with 16 posts each of additional professors and associate professors, and numerous assistant professor positions. Repeated advertisements to recruit eligible candidates for these key roles have seen limited success over the years.
Rakesh Singh, Registrar of AIIMS Bilaspur, stated that the latest round of advertisements has drawn a better response compared to previous attempts. He noted that many applicants have shown interest this time, signaling a positive trend.
Challenges in Recruitment
Registrar Singh attributed the hiring challenges to several factors, including:
- Category Reservation Issues: Of the 22 advertised professor positions, 13 are reserved for various categories, and finding suitable candidates has been a persistent hurdle.
- Location and Connectivity: Bilaspur relatively secluded location and lack of convenient transportation had previously deterred applicants.
- Lack of Facilities: Absence of adequate schooling options for staff children and insufficient residential facilities on campus were additional deterrents for senior medical professionals.
Addressing the Issues
Efforts are underway to resolve the challenges and make AIIMS Bilaspur more attractive to potential faculty members. Key initiatives include:
- Improved Connectivity: The four-laning of the road to Chandigarh has significantly enhanced accessibility, and a train link to Bilaspur is expected to become operational by next year.
- Educational Facilities: A Kendriya Vidyalaya has been approved and will start functioning this academic session in a temporary building provided by the Department of Higher Education. The state government has also identified land for the school permanent establishment.
- Residential Facilities: Construction of adequate residential accommodation within the campus is being prioritized to ensure comfortable living conditions for staff.
Brighter Future Ahead
Registrar Singh expressed optimism about the ongoing efforts, emphasizing that these improvements will address the concerns of prospective faculty members. “The current response to the advertisements is encouraging, and we hope to fill a significant number of vacancies soon,” he added.
Conclusion
AIIMS Bilaspur is a cornerstone of India’s healthcare and education system, but the ongoing faculty shortage highlights the need for sustained efforts to make the institution more accessible and appealing. With improved infrastructure, better facilities, and a dedicated push for recruitment, AIIMS Bilaspur aims to overcome these challenges and continue its mission of providing world-class healthcare and education.
